Who Qualifies for the Veterans Pension?
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), applicants must meet all three categories of requirements:
1. Service Requirements

At least one day of active duty during a recognized wartime period (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War).

Veterans discharged after Sept. 7, 1980 generally must have served at least 24 continuous months.
2. Age or Disability
Veterans must meet at least one of the following:

Age 65 or older.

Permanently and totally disabled.

A nursing home patient due to disability.
3. Financial Need

Household income and net worth must be below VA thresholds.

Assets not counted: primary home, one vehicle, personal belongings.
